Goden Gate bridge in the mist
Next
day it was time to get back on the road and get on the R.1 again to San
Francisco. We said our goodbyes to my friends and drove out to the
coast but only getting as far as a place called Half Moon Bay where we
decided to stop and get our groceries but we then decided to stay at
the state park for the night. We would have if it had not been for
James who got talking to a new friend we met who owned a llama farm
just a little way from the beach and we were invited to stay at the
ranch for the night in a cabin. Well we could hardly refuse such an
offer and so after we finished our shopping and headed out to the
ranch. Nancy is the owner and I can say that she has the most wonderful
ranch location we have ever seen, right up in the hills far from the
madding crowd and, we had a most wonderful stay for the night. I would
like to thank all my friends Bruce, Carol and Nancy for there kind
hospitality and for putting up with us in California. Now back to some
serious driving again and, fully refreshed we set off to see the Golden
Gate Bridge before leaving the warm climate of California and up to
cooler Oregon.

Nancy Shaub very kindly gave us a room on her Lama Farm for the night
As we approached the Golden Gate Bridge we could see that we might have
a bit of a problem in actually seeing the bridge as it was shrouded in
a thick layer of mist. We stopped just before the bridge and took some
pictures before heading over to the other side, boy I was disappointed
not to be able to see the bridge in its full glory and I think James
was also but, with nothing we could do we drove over taking as many
pictures as possible as the mist would lift every so often and, before
we knew it we were on the other side looking over the bay at Alcatraz
island famous for its so called inescapable prison ! Then driving up a
hill to see over the bay but again disappointment as we saw nothing of
the bridge or bay for that matter so we pulled over and cooked our
usual feast by the road side chatting to a couple of friendly rangers
who were interested in what we were doing in such a small car.

It was just a litle bit windy here
Onward and upward we go, ever heading north into uncharted territory
"for me that is" and we followed to coastal route which turned out to
be a bit of a handful because the roads turned unusually narrow and
windy too, and so we decided to get off the R1 and head inland for the
main highway north. Finding camping sites is really easy on the
motorways, and as its not such a good idea to just stop anywhere when
you dont really know the territory. The following pictures hqave been
chosen not only for there location but also as a big thankyou to
everyone who has helped us on our way across the united states. Thank
you to you all !
