The
next day was for me probably the most craziest day of the drive so far.
We left Green River camp fairly early in the morning and the first leg
took us 100 miles from the camp which was the first and only rest stop
across the dessert and we stopped for brunch. Then back on the road
again and as we headed south we took a wrong turn but decided to stay
on this road as it would take us onto the correct road after about 30
miles, what we did not realise was that we would go up and up for what
seemed hours right up to 10,600 feet and above the snow line where we
stopped and played in the welcome snow.
This day we ended up crossing two desserts and also two foot of snow
"only in America" I was so tied out from the drive which was 527.4
miles long that I just fell asleep in just a moment and we managed to
get to the Grand Canyon state park in northern Arizona.
We took a couple of days out to rest the car and our aching limbs. The roads leave a lot to be desired.

Leaving Arizona took two more days and it was quite exhausting in the
process. We drove down through Phoenix and got caught up in a terrible
road jamb at around four in the afternoon and the temperature was up to
40°c but we ploughed on until we got to a town called Piccacho. The
temperature at nine in the evening was still 30°c with cactus all
around us (see images). The next day we continued south to almost the
boarder of Mexico right out into the dessert and miles from anywhere
with the heat rising even higher to a maximum of almost 47°c in the
shade, then heading west once again for the boarder of California.
Before we crossed the boarder we stopped for one more night in Arizona
and the next morning the temperature rose again to 40°c before 9.00am
then we crossed the boarder and were on our way north to Los Angeles
where we are at the moment just waiting to get some media coverage at a
camp site just outside San Bernardino.
