update 7-5-99
Stage one and the big day has arrived.
After a week of media hype I was a little apprehensive as we finished
loading the car for its first leg of the drive, though it may seem a
little insignificant at this time I was to say the least quite shaky.
Mini had to be delivered to a shipping company in London which is to be
loaded into a container bound for New York USA. As I had not yet driven
the car fully loaded it was a little worrying to know if the car would
manage the weight which is a bit high because we have a lot of extra
food on board to help cut the running cost for each day. I was more
than surprised to find that the little car was happy with its load and
we had a good drive up to London. Every thing went very well and was a
smooth run.
Mini went into its 20 foot container and was secured down ready for the
ten day journey. Myself and co driver James will be flying out to New
York via British Airways on Monday 24th May and shall arrive around one
p.m. New time, we shall then contact the shipping agent as soon as we
arrive and possibly collect the car early next day 25th May to then
start the journey in earnest.
Leg one will take us North to Niagara Falls.
