Today
I covered yet another 300 plus miles and we made our stop at Nundroo
yet another fuel stop area with a small camp site at the rear a petrol
station by the road side and as usual a pub. This place had less going
for it than the last and thats saying something, once we had our dinner
and a wash we both went to sleep fairly quickly. I am in a way looking
forward to getting back to Melbourne but at the same time sorry that
the drive is shortly coming to an end in Australia, though I do intend
to return one day soon.
The next morning we arose fairly early again and, after a couple of
cups of tea we got on the road again. First of all filling the fuel
tanks up of course and doing all the other daily routine things like
checking the oil and water.
Then we were on our way heading for Port Germein which is a small
fishing village just North of Adelaide, which has a very long wooden
pier apparently the longest in Australia. We headed for this place
because it was probably the last area to fish for James before we get
back to Melbourne 443 miles later we got to Port Germein quite late in
the afternoon and set up the camp in the only camp site near to the
beach, then went out to get some dinner. I have realised it is cheaper
to buy food in takeaway than it is to buy and cook it. After we had had
dinner we each did our washing and then James went off to do his
fishing while I sorted out the car and begin to pack things away which
were no longer needed for the drive, plus I needed to send some E-mails
to my shipping agents in Melbourne. As the evening drew in there was a
breeze which got stronger and stronger until it was a gale and, thats
when James returned, empty handed but its not surprising really I can
only imagine what the sea must have been like as I was already tucked
up in my sleeping bag.

It wasnt exactly a good night to get sleep because the wind was blowing
so hard that the tent was almost flattened with every gust until the
poles gave way and we had to go outside and make repairs plus fit extra
guy lines to the legs as we did in America. By morning the wind had
stopped and it was a beautiful sunny day and at around ten we pulled in
at a village to buy bacon and bread for our breakfast. We found out
later on that there were a lot of bodies found in an old bank vault.
The bank had been closed for a number of years and it was a hiding
place for a particularly nasty gang of murderers. And on that note we
finished our tucker and got back on the road again this time heading
for Kingston. We were going to stop in or near to Adelaide but as we
approached and then drove through it was apparent there were no decent
places to stop for the night so we just headed for the coast and
eventually Kingston and, what a brilliant place this town is. The view
from the camp site looked right out to sea which was about a hundred
yards away from the tent and the sea looked fantastic but the only draw
back was the weed which dominated the beach which was about four feet
under the weed and it was smelly too.
Next morning we headed for Melbourne and were back at the same camp
site by late afternoon which is the very camp site we stayed in the day
we collected the car and set off for this fantastic drive Full circle
around this vast continent and what a big country it is.
